We ask builders in the blockchain and cryptocurrency sector for their thoughts on the industry…and throw in some random ginger to keep them on their toes!
this week our 6 question is Panony co-founder Tongtong Bee is an incubator, investor and advisor in blockchain and Web3 businesses.
I’m Tongtong Bee, Co-Founder of Panony and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of PANews. I started my journalistic career in traditional Chinese media outlets such as China News Service, Jiemiang, and Kailian Media Group. Since 2015, I have covered blockchain and fintech news as he was one of the few journalists in China who focused on these areas at the time.
Due to its focus on economic issues and emerging technologies, it was selected to report in the ‘Two Sessions’ (NPC and CPPCC) in 2018. That year, her partner Alyssa and I started her PANews business. Publishing more than 20,000 of her articles averaging over 5 million page views per month, she has become a frequently cited source in cryptocurrency and blockchain journalism such as Forbes, Caixin, and CCN, and is the official news source for Tencent News.
1 Looking at the Top 100 Cryptocurrency Projects by Market Cap, which projects stand out and why?
I have to say Bitcoin. As a journalist who is passionate about economic research, I was shocked when I first learned about the concept.
Bitcoin was not only designed to be an important step in making money safer, but also to be a significant deterrent to many types of financial crime. It is the first decentralized peer-to-peer payment network led by a user without a central authority. Bitcoin has now changed the world and will continue to revolutionize the financial systems of many countries. It continues to be a creative result in all of its current and endless future uses.
2 What is the most innovative use case for blockchain you have seen so far? It may not be the one that is most likely to succeed!
As part of Panony and PANews, we always look forward to meeting and collaborating on hundreds of amazing and innovative projects around the world. For example, I am personally interested in what they are doing with Cudos, a distributed cloud computing platform. We know cloud is expensive and centralized. Additionally, up to 50% of the time, hardware is inactive or turned off, resulting in a low return on investment for businesses and a huge carbon footprint. The current development trajectory is therefore not sustainable for the planet.
Cudos Network uses a cloud-based distributed computing approach that includes blockchain support to help organizations save up to 10x over centralized hyperscale cloud platforms and help hardware owners offset their hardware costs. enable (and potentially benefit from) Lend their computing power to the network.
The blockchain industry could boom. I am glad that there are many talented people to build a better future together.
3 What does decentralization mean to you and why is it important?
good question. The decentralized web is the future of the unstoppable internet.
With the current version of the web, also known as Web2, the consequences of large corporations controlling what happens online cannot be overlooked. Personal data is tracked and sold without permission, content is deprived of authority, it is dominated by advertisingMost of the web is centralized. Web3 is a radical, radical rethink of how apps are designed and interacted with, solving many of these problems. There are some fundamental differences between Web2 and Web3, but central to them is decentralization.
The Ethereum network is currently the largest decentralized network, giving access to thousands of decentralized applications. The focus on digital ownership has increased content creators’ revenue potential and invented new ways to invest. And the decentralized web allows individuals to control their data, not big corporations or anyone else.
4 List your favorite sports teams and pick the one most memorable moment from watching them. If you’re not a sports fan, pick some movies and moments!
As a winter games enthusiast myself, the memories of the 2022 Beijing Olympics are still fresh. Eileen Goo is certainly a sensation in her free skiing, as she won two gold medals and one silver medal in one game. She doesn’t get surprised just by looking at her beautiful moves. I also admire her constant efforts to inspire her girls. Also, she’s honored to be named in the 2020 Forbes China 30 Under 30 with her (separate list)!
As a female entrepreneur, I admire her spirit of sticking to goals, challenging the status quo, pursuing her dreams with passion, and working tirelessly. When she started the business with her business partner Alyssa, it empowered me.
5 What would you do with your extra time if you didn’t need sleep?
I really wish I didn’t have to sleep so I could do more of what interests me. I will probably read more books because I find it always fascinating to learn something new. During his two-month lockdown in Shanghai, I got out of the habit of exercising badminton indoors and keep it up and do it outdoors properly.
My husband and I are very grateful that we share so many hobbies. One of them is to write a book together about advertising in Shanghai. She is also very interested in making a documentary of her artist, Chinese Folk, which she hopes will one day be seen by people all over the world.
6 What is the future of social media?
We believe the future of social media is owned by content creators and communities, not by specific platforms controlling narratives. This is what Web3 brings. Decentralization could be the blueprint for the future of social media. Users have direct access to the decentralized platform. No central authority can dictate the rules of engagement and monetization. Social media becomes a freer space while giving content creators full ownership of their assets.
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) are a new way of online social organization with far-reaching impact. The characteristics of DAO can have a huge impact on your social media business. Blockchain tokens have the potential to change that arrangement by allowing creators to monetize their fans using many of the same methods DAOs use to reward contributions to their members. I’m here.
I’ve seen user pleading that Twitter could shift the balance of power and turn into a Web3 platform. We also appreciate several projects, including Only 1 and Rally, working to rebuild the social platform and rebuild the social and creator economy.
Wishes to the young and ambitious blockchain community:
Our community needs more builders with warm hearts and cool minds. Reduce FOMO and increase patience. Confusion is good. It makes people think about themselves.
