Over the last few years, technology has become a bridge between people and people. Tools and experiences have improved, but nothing beats having another like-minded person across the table to explore ideas and share perspectives.
Rooted in the rickety tables of Vienna’s coffee houses and Lockheed’s Skunkworks, there’s magic in these chance IRL meeting possibilities, and that magic isn’t easy to replicate in the digital realm. Not impossible, but limited today.
In a fully equipped concrete building with murals depicting popular NFT art, Atlanta Blockchain Center builds a community around education, incubation and ideas. With weekly events and speakers, it’s the epicenter of web3 buzz, revitalization and innovation. ABC is organized as DAO Holders of either $BUIDL or ABC NFTs will get access to co-working hackerspaces and priority access to deal flow from incubators led by Starter Labs.
Last month, when I was asked to host a panel with three inspiring entrepreneurs on the intersection of music and Web3, I reached out to Angela Brasington, Chief Marketing Officer of the Atlanta Blockchain Center, to find out more.
What inspired you to start the Atlanta Blockchain Center?
Starter Labs, the parent company of the Atlanta Blockchain Center, knew a bear market was coming and wanted to diversify what they were doing. Part of that plan was to make the virtual incubator and launchpad a reality. We have launched 63 defi projects from all over the world and he has raised over $45 million on our platform. starter.xyzWe really understand what it takes to find great projects and how to prepare them for a smooth and successful token launch.
We found Miami to be leading the way in the crypto scene, but we also found that Miami’s crypto community is just that, it’s all about crypto. Our founder is a builder at heart and continues to code every day. We were interested in raising awareness about the technology that made cryptography possible, but also educated people about many other incredibly impactful use cases for blockchain technology.
When we visited Atlanta, we found a booming fintech industry and the 4th largest tech college in the US (along with other great tech schools). Also, Atlanta “Trade Route”processes 70% of the world’s payment transactions. However, when I searched for blockchain groups, meetups and events, I found several groups that were inactive years ago.
It seemed strange because Atlanta seemed to have the perfect foundation to become a blockchain hub, if not a blockchain hub in the United States. We quickly put the puzzle together and saw an opportunity in front of us. Then we continued to do what we do best: BUIDL! First the concept, then the plan, and finally figuring out how to execute an exciting new chapter.
Tell us about the collaboration between Starter Labs and ABC.
Starter Labs is the umbrella or parent company of multiple DeFi, web3 and blockchain related products and initiatives. starter.xyz A multi-chain launch pad, incubator and investor network for companies building on blockchain.
It is deployed on five blockchains: Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, Ethereum, Phantom and Avalanche. Using his experience at Starter, he launched ABC as his first IRL initiative.Among many other things, we Incubation project When raise funds from investors All face to face, just like the starter! Quitting Zoom and seeing our community face-to-face was a pleasant change.
How do you see DAOs evolving in the next year?
We are still in education mode with DAO. Some are brand new learners, others are members of multiple DAOs. We work hard to make sure everyone understands how everything works. We see our most active members participating more actively, asking great questions and submitting suggestions.
As a result, some organizing committee shape. Once that happens, we want to see a timeline of events, initiatives, partnerships, and collaborations to help generate funds for well-managed finances.
What advice would you give to someone starting a DAO to keep the community aligned and engaged?
A daily reminder of how important it is to keep the DAO community connected and engaged. Let’s go! I can’t stress it enough.
Discord is great for creating channels where you can find creative ways to get your community talking and engaging. Separating channels allows people to consume the content that best suits them. It’s a better way to keep them active because they see what they want to see. We have a ‘general chat’ channel for all members to communicate openly with each other. increase.
There is an “Introduce yourself” channel. This is just for new members to introduce themselves, see who is who, and connect when there are lots of synergies. On the topic, we have a “rabbit hole” channel so that people can go down the rabbit hole on any topic they see fit. Many others, including the DAO Governance Channel DAO member holding NFT You can vote on proposals submitted by members. It’s important to structure your channel in a way that drives activity and delivers value to your members.
What are the key ingredients for a successful Web3 investor pitch?
It should be clear and concise. It should efficiently address the problem being resolved and the steps being taken to resolve it. In addition, the business model should be well represented with realistic revenue projections.
Trust me, it’s not pretty to show $20 million projected revenue Investors don’t want that. Because we know it’s impractical for most companies, especially the early stage ones we work with.
Teams should be listed with pictures and you should be ready to discuss their level of involvement. I want to know where you’re headed, how you’re getting there, and if your team can make it happen.
Which projects in the first incubator cohort are you excited about?
I’m honestly very excited about all three projects and their founders. They are all unique and different in their own way.
