Nik Bougalis leaves Ripple.
In a Twitter thread on Friday, Nik Bougalis, Ripple’s director of engineering and author of the XLS-20 amendment proposal, revealed that he is leaving the company after a “fantastic” 10-year journey.
My 10-year journey with @Ripple has been amazing (even if exhausting and all-consuming), Bougalis wrote. I had to work on a project that I love, to reach a goal that I believe in. But the journey will be over in a few weeks.
“good thing”
my ten year journey in @ Ripple It was great (if you get too exhausted to consume it all).
I had to work towards a goal I believed in and work on a project I loved.
However, the trip will come to an end in a few weeks.

Bougalis stressed the difficulty of the decision and argued that it was in his best interest. In particular, the engineer believes that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is under the control of a talented and dedicated team that will continue to run without him. Additionally, the engineer clarified that he will not be participating in any other crypto-related projects or companies.
Supported by the XRPL team and members of the XRP community
Unsurprisingly, the announcement from Bougalis evoked an emotional response from members of the XRPL team and the XRP community at large.
Lead XRPL developer Wietse Wind wishes Bougalis all the best in his future adventures and says he owes much of his growth on the XRPL team to Bougalis’ teachings.
I wish you all the best and more for you and your adventures ahead. Without you (all the digging, building, explaining, etc) my own XRPL journey wouldn’t even come close.
Let’s meet again knowing it’s not far

Meanwhile, Emi Yoshikawa, Ripple’s VP of Strategy and Operations, praised the engineers as “the foundation of the XRPL community.” Executives also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work with him.
Nik, you have truly been the foundation of the XRPL community. I feel very fortunate and honored to have had the opportunity to work with you over the years. I look forward to keeping in touch with you and looking forward to having you as a special guest at a future XRP meetup in Japan!!
