On Thursday, November 17th, the launch of the Ethereum Climate Platform (ECP) was announced. COP27, the world’s largest gathering on climate action. ECP aims to counter his Ethereum-based carbon footprint dating back to the network’s launch in 2015.
The Ethereum Climate Platform plans to provide incentives and funding for the development of projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while having a positive impact on the environment and society.
Hosting Web3 Companies at COP27 Joined civil society leaders and the UNFCCC Climate Innovation Hub to announce initiatives. Web3 companies convened by blockchain software technology Consensis and enterprise software developers Arinfla.
Founding members of the platform’s launch team are numerous companies. Since 2015, the Ethereum network’s annual CO2 emissions are estimated to exceed 11 million tons per year. The ECP initiative comes two months after Ethereum’s “merger”, which saw his 99.992% of Ethereum’s daily energy demand cut.
While this merger marks a more climate-friendly Ethereum for the future, ECP’s focus is on tackling past emissions. Ethereum has left an estimated tens of millions of tons of carbon debt since its inception.
Launch partners will complete research to obtain accurate estimates of historical Ethereum emissions.
Industry Views on ECP

Joseph RubinFounder and CEO of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum, gave his thoughts on the launch of the project.
This merger has set a very high new bar for climate mitigation across the business and financial sectors. has demonstrated that it can successfully promote global warming, but the climate crisis requires more radical change.
This is why we are excited to work with Web2 and Web3s most prominent actors and civil society leaders collaborators to accelerate climate innovation through the Ethereum Climate Platform.

Bill KentrapAllinfra co-founder also commented.
In the fight to mitigate man-made climate change, funding quality and environmentally sound projects is critical.
Historically, however, the process of investing in the right projects and assessing their real-world impact has lacked transparency, efficiency and timeliness. We are delighted to have the opportunity to design and launch a Web3-enabled climate finance platform, and have benefited from the excellent advice and guidance of the United Nations Climate Change Global Innovation Hub over the last few months in designing this novel approach. will be grateful to.

Sundeep Nail WallThe co-founder of Polygon spoke about his hopes for ECP in tackling the climate crisis.
Over the next few years, we look forward to the opportunity to further engage the platform in working with strategic leaders on climate change and Web3.
With The Merge, Web3 has demonstrated two core characteristics: innovation and speed, both of which are critical to delivering climate solutions in the current crisis.
I am excited to join forces with my colleagues at ConsenSys and Web2 and Web3 to address one of the most pressing challenges we face as citizens of the global community. It’s an important mutual collaborative initiative: Together, we strive to impact real and lasting change that provides a better reality for all.”
