Abu Dhabi Global Market The Center for International Finance (ADGM) in the capital of the United Arab Emirates hosted an event to coincide with International Data Privacy Day, which takes place every January 28th around the world. The event brought together members of the UAE-GCC Privacy Network, counselors from the U.S. Embassy in the UAE, UAE government officials, and many other prominent figures from the GCC region.
The agenda for this year’s event focuses on international best practices that build trust in international business. More importantly, it focused on the role that the International Financial Center plays in enforcing data protection, privacy guidelines, and regulation.
Panel discussions at the event explored topics such as How Financial Free Zone Privacy Regulations Build Confidence for International Business and How Businesses Can Better Prepare for New UAE Personal Data Protection Laws to address local and regional witnessed the participation of industry experts.
Following a successful 2021
In 2021, ADGM will Data Protection Authority (ODP) is the independent supervisory body responsible for administering data protection regulations in this international financial centre. In addition, his ODP of ADGM is responsible for facilitating data protection within ADGM and maintaining a register of data controllers. It also imposes obligations on data controllers and protects the rights of data subjects.
ADGM’s Data Protection Regulation 2021 is benchmarked against international standards. This includes Convention 108 to ensure the protection of sensitive and personal data collected by entities within ADGM. The event was marked in line with national and international data protection authorities and other sectors observing International Data Privacy Day. This was an opportunity to raise awareness about personal data protection and privacy rights.

International Data Protection Day, also known as Data Privacy Day, marks the 42nd anniversary of the only international treaty on data protection, Council of Europe Convention No. 108. ADGM is actively participating in the 108th Congress of the Council of Europe as the sole observer from his GCC.
