Cardano Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) and Users report At least half of the network’s nodes were temporarily offline over the weekend.
According to January 22nd director An anomaly shared by Input Output Global’s Telegram SPO, the fintech engineering and research behind the Cardano blockchain, caused 50% of Cardano nodes to disconnect and restart.

“This appears to have been caused by a transient anomaly causing two reactions on the node. Some disconnected from peers, others threw an exception and restarted,” the post explained the sudden confusion. I read it while
Despite temporary degradation, the Cardano network has recovered without any outside intervention. As the post explains, “such transient issues” were taken into account in node’s design and consensus, and “the system worked exactly as expected.”
During the anomaly that occurred between blocks 8300569 and 8300570, block production reportedly continued, but was slowed by several minutes, “with a minor impact and similar to delays that occur during normal operations.”
“Most of the nodes recovered automatically, depending on the SPO selected.”
At the time of this writing, we are still investigating the root cause of the anomaly and the resulting node disconnection and reboot.
We are currently investigating the root cause of this anomalous behavior and are implementing additional logging measures alongside our regular monitoring procedures, the official statement said.

Node Shark and Cardano SPO co-founder Tom Stokes reported in a January 22nd post that more than half of the listed nodes were affected.
He also shared a graph showing where network sync dropped from 100% to just over 40% for 300+ reporting nodes.

According to the Stokes chart, network sync recovered to about 87% after the drop, but did not immediately return to its previous level of 100%.
another SPO report We reported a similar issue to Stoke in our January 22nd post, but declared that “some SPOs were unaffected.”
“Others have relays and BPs have restarted. SPO, devs and IOG are in Discord debug atm. No root cause yet,” they said.
