Earlier this week, it was announced that Japan Post has released a series of stamp artwork as NFTs. This is important because the initiative is backed by federal agencies in major countries, demonstrating that Japan as a nation is investing more in blockchain assets.
The current Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has confirmed that Japan will invest more in web3, including NFTs.
This remark was made when Mr. Kishida gave a speech on October 3, 2022. Japan’s digital transformation schedule. As he explained, the plan so far has included distributing NFTs to local governments so that they can address their individual issues.
Going forward, the government plans to explore more use cases for digital assets. This could include issuing ID cards and facilitating web3 services that leverage the metaverse and NFTs.
Given the efforts made in Japan to promote the use of NFTs at the government level, such as the NFT awards given to local governments and the new collection by Japan Post, these applications should come in the near future. Japan could be the next big web3 hub.
