master Card Partnering with Nigeria-based Digital Payments Startup right now, an effort to help small businesses reduce the risk of cyberattacks. This partnership aims to accomplish this by providing small businesses with free resources to help both educate and improve the cybersecurity ecosystem.
The Mastercard and NowNow partnership comes amid a significant increase in cybercrime in recent years. This problem, Figure release by Nigerian Communications CommissionThe commission explained that Nigeria loses an estimated $500 million a year to cybercrime alone.
Small businesses are often the target of cybercriminals. Because they are less likely to have the resources to defend themselves, they are targeted more often than larger organizations. Less likely to behave appropriately after a violation.
NowNow tries to protect SMEs with regular web application penetration testing. Such tests are intended to ensure that small business applications are not vulnerable to cyberthreats. The startup’s products are currently available in Nigeria and Angola, with plans to expand to more markets soon.
NowNow is also the only African startup participating in the latest project. Mastercard Start Path Global ProgramThe program is designed to help late-stage startups innovate and scale. NowNow gained operational support, commercial involvement and strategic investment opportunities from this program.
