The bill passed with 37 votes in favor and 13 against.
It was supported by Dennis Porter, CEO and co-founder of the Satoshi Action Fund.porter wrote today The bill must pass the House and be signed by the Governor.
The Pro-Cryptocurrency Bill introduces new environmental zoning regulations, potentially counteracting previous Missoula County laws affecting mining.
Montana seems to be a pretty popular destination for industrial cryptocurrency miners. Companies such as Madison River Equity, Marathon Digital, Atlas Power, BitZero, and Project Spokane have operated, attempted to operate, or have previously operated in the state.
Other states are trying to restrict or liberalize cryptocurrency mining laws. In mid-2022, New York passed legislation to limit cryptocurrency mining. Meanwhile, Mississippi passed a bill this year to prevent discriminatory mining laws.
