
US-based cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has been down since 10pm ET on December 15, according to its official status page. The Gemini website appears to be functional at the time of writing. Still, the status page says “Some systems are currently experiencing an outage.”

According to the exchange, the Gemini Spaceship was scheduled to undergo scheduled maintenance from December 15th until the early hours of December 16th. However, the cryptocurrency platform extended this down period for more than three hours to her without further explanation.

Gemini is investigating reports of potential service disruptions. All customer accounts and funds remain completely secure. Further updates will follow.
On December 15th, the status page revealed that some users received two-factor authentication messages even though they had not “specified a non-SMS method.” This issue has been fixed and the exchange is currently monitoring the situation.
The exchange was experiencing downtime on November 16th due to an Amazon Web Services EBS outage on one of its primary databases.
Meanwhile, crypto lender Genesis’ decision to suspend withdrawals has affected the exchange led by the Winklevoss twins. Gemini has formed a special committee with other creditors to help profitable users recover their funds.
