Is Apple demanding 30% of gas bills?
The main reason cited and mentioned by Coinbase is the gas fee required to transmit the NFT must be paid through an in-app purchase system so that we can collect 30% of the gas fee.
Additionally, Coinbase said Apple’s demands are impossible for anyone who understands how NFTs and blockchains work. Apples own in-app purchase system doesnt support cryptography, so we werent able to comply when we tried, Coinbase said.
Coinbase also said that this is similar to Apple trying to reduce charges for all emails sent over open internet protocols. One of the biggest problems with this move by Apple is that iOS users who keep their NFTs in their iPhone wallets will have to go through a lengthy process to transfer them.
Simply put, Apple has introduced new policies to protect its interests at the expense of consumer investment in NFTs and developer innovation across the crypto ecosystem.
This move will undoubtedly affect all iOS users who store NFTs in their iPhone wallets. It is unknown if the decision will be reversed and will affect the entire ecosystem.
