This bear market is not IOTA’s first rodeo.
Blockchain-less blockchain is old and wise enough to capitalize on the experience of the last crypto winter following the 2017 euphoria, rather than being the spring chicken of the crypto world.
In this week’s CoinJournal podcast, I talked with IOTA’s Christian Saur about all things IOTA and the cryptocurrency market as a whole.
There was much to discuss. Investors may remember his massive IOTA surge in 2017. It was one of the few tokens that survived the ensuing bear market and did not surpass the most recent bull market high during COVID.
But most of all, it highlights how prevalent speculation was at the time, and Christian makes an interesting point about the lack of utility and the significant development of IOTA since then.
And DeFi IOTA is now really working to increase its presence in this space. One of the things I always emphasize to people in my analysis is the fact that DeFi worked as planned during the recent contagion that spilled over into the cryptocurrency market. Villains like Celsius, Three Arrows Capital were all CeFi companies.
DeFi lived up to its promise. The liquidation happened on schedule as coded and the blockchain did not lie. nothing failed. Nothing broke. Sure, Terra could count as DeFi for her, but that’s due to a flawed model, not DeFi itself. We chat about these events and how DeFi has responded.
It’s been around for a long time and it was fun chatting with a coin I’ve seen all this time. Does that give investors extra peace of mind?
Shimmer Network was released last month. Christian likened it to his version of IOTA, sort of “what is his Kusama to Polkadot?” It was also nice to hear about a fair launch without the majority of tokens going to insiders unlike many projects these days.
We focused on what it’s like to launch such a big upgrade in a bear market with little bullish sentiment. And we will also detail what it means for IOTA going forward.
Finally, it’s always nice to hear about your personal journey into cryptocurrency. Christian tells us how he first encountered IOTA. He decided to go all in and dive deep into the cryptocurrency rabbit hole.
However, this is just a flavor. You can catch the full podcast at the link below.
