“The NFT community is moving to BTC and Ordinal is bringing true rarity to collectibles,” he wrote in a tweet, announcing the burn.

The move, predictably, sparked a lot of ire in the Bored Ape community, which ultimately ended up with Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano (@CryptoGarga). argued Via Twitter:

Ordinals have become a trendy tool for Bitcoin node operators to participate in fun projects. So far, they are only traded through a small Discord channel, with no marketplace serving the supply and demand of the ecosystem like OpenSea.

Besides Ape’s writing, Yuga Labs seems to have a lot to worry about in the Ordinals space. This was largely after it was revealed that another collection, the Ordinals Punks, had emerged as his popular Ordinals-based collection.
Ordinals were made possible by what is known as the Taproot soft fork, which extended the block limit from 1MB to 3MB, allowing inscriptions to be placed on the Bitcoin network.
