Boris Alergant, Head of DeFi Markets at Ripple Lab, said a “killer app” for consumers is what’s needed to bring the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector to a level that attracts mainstream audiences. I’m here.
Alergant was featured by Cointelegraph reporters in Toronto, Canada during the panel discussion The Future of Decentralized Finance at the Blockchain Futurist Conference on August 9th.
Alongside Alergant, Aventus Ventures CEO Kevin Hobbs, FLUIDEFI co-founder and CEO Lisa Loud, and Teller Finance CEO and co-founder Ryan Berkin also joined the panel.
The general sentiment among panelists was that centralized financial institutions would eventually drive DeFi towards mainstream adoption. I suggested that it was likely coming from the app.
For the average user, tell your mother how to go out and bet on Aave or ETH. […] This is a process. She doesn’t know how to use her MetaMask, but she hopes to generate that yield somehow. She wants to make a deal, but she doesn’t know how.
“So I think institutional adoption is where it’s going and institutions are what makes it possible. […] A killer app for consumers to take crypto and DeFi to the next level.
Fluidefi co-founder and CEO Loud expressed a similar view, noting that the Internet was ultimately adopted by ordinary people who did not understand the Internet protocol suite, also known as TCP/IP.
We all use the internet, right? The internet was a paradigm shift for us, but we don’t know how to use TCP/IP. But it’s not sustainable and it’s not the right model to adopt.”
Over the past two years, we have seen institutions investing more in DeFi and companies creating simpler user experiences, she added.
Ripple executives also outlined that the DeFi sector will soon work with the CeFi sector to provide financial services to its customers.
DeFi will eventually complement and complement CeFi. I just want execution,” he said.
