Jack Dorsey unveils decentralized social with algo choice and portable accounts

Co-founder of Twitter, Former CEO Jack Dorsey As part of our decentralized answer to Twitter, we have launched the latest version of our social protocol and the new Bluesky Social app.

Announced on October 18 come It’s been almost three years since Dorsey announced the initiative in December 2019. It is intended to give social media users control over their data and allow it to move from platform to platform without permission.

The new protocol has been renamed from “ADX” to “Authenticated Transfer Protocol” (or AT protocol). explained As a “protocol for large-scale decentralized social applications” that enables account portability, algorithm choice, interoperability, and performance.

In this protocol, user identities are handled by AT protocol domain names, such as @alice.com. These map to encrypted URLs that protect the user’s account and their data.

This data can also be ported from one provider to another without “losing data or social graphs.”

Other features of the protocol include interoperability and enhanced performance, and “algorithm selection”. This gives users access to an “algorithmic open marketplace” so that users interacting with web search engines can freely choose indexers.

Bluesky said this would mean using protocols to give users more control over what they see and who they reach on social media platforms, rather than being controlled and operated by a single company they seek to engage with. I explained that it means you can.

Before Blue Sky Describe the content management model It happens at “multiple layers throughout the system, including aggregation algorithms, reputation-based thresholds, and end-user choices.”

There is no single company that can decide what to publish. Instead, there is a market where companies decide what to bring to their audience.

In response to a user’s question on Twitter, Dorsey also confirmed that users can select “No Algorithm.”

However, not much is known about the new social app called Bluesky Social, other than that it is “launching soon.” Currently, users can join her private waiting list to test the beta version before it’s released to the public.

Bluesky said it had reached a “temporary limit on mailing signups” from users who signed up for the beta before switching to a mailing list provider to allow signups to resume.

We look forward to sharing more about the Bluesky applications we are developing, the company said.
