First time hearing about the author Malloy I was digging through the Decentraland datasheet. According to statistics, Malloy is one of his most successful creators on Decentraland. Especially if you count the number of items he sold here.
Everyone I spoke to recommended Malloy as someone who could do incredible things. He is his 3D artist and art director. He worked in-house in the games industry during the feverish time of the new console gold rush (the first games hit the market) and has been outsourcing since then. I came. I’m talking to him today and it’s not the first time!
Tell us a little bit about how things have changed since you learned about the Metaverse and what you can do with it.
In March of 2021, before the “NFT Summer” madness kicked in, I entered the Metaverse space. The attraction was the concept of a rare digital asset that allows artists to become distributors and publishers as well as manufacturers.
The evolution of that appeal is how it enhances the value of game assets regardless of the social factors of “hype” that affect them. Assets need to sell themselves without the need for populism, and I don’t think his NFTs in the game have scratched the surface of that potential.
Creating digital fashion sounds like a challenge. So why did you choose Decentraland as your platform?
I came across Decentraland long before I created my first assets. What attracted me was the concept and ideology of the project.
You are one of Decentraland’s most successful creators. Please share your thoughts on it. Did you have a goal when you launched your first wearable?
That statement is a little harsh because my work is largely untrusted and for third parties. wearable humble lately.
I think the most fulfilling thing was making my own assets, but the happiest thing about making wearables was working with my business partner Sam to bring wearables to the many citizens of Decentraland. We had a lot of fun and various events were held. For over a year and a half.
Ironically, when I started working, my goal was to see if it was possible, as a 3D artist, not to be at the mercy of traditionally established dependencies (working for middlemen and studio producers). was. But more and more, we see “metaverse consultants” charging exorbitant fees for their services and subcontracting to the real talent of Peanuts.
In short, my goal was to see if the technology/platform could be used to combat the illicit business practices in place in established industries. But collectors need to be careful about who they give their hard-earned money to. Profit Broker or Talent?
Starting something on your own can be a daunting task. Any advice for those who are still confused?
Share your “work in progress” with the community. Reveal your authenticity as an artist and build trust. That’s what I did, and multiple people contacted me (including the Foundation for subcontracting myself and Sam to create the wearable for their outstanding event. We appreciate!).
I don’t know who is watching on Discord or Twitter. Don’t be afraid that people will steal your ideas at the expense of people who don’t know your worth as an artist.
Do you remember your first Decentraland experience? Can you tell us a little bit about it?
I think a lot of other Wonderzones and Tominoya Casinos did as well (lol), but then I went to Discord and found some super cool scenes like the Puzzle Museum.
I know the Decentraland community is very strong. Have you met them on IRL and what are your thoughts on anonymity in this space?
I am quite open. I think being anonymous helps me feel protected from my abusers. For others, it acts as a protection against abusing others. So I would like to be transparent as I do not intend to abuse anyone, but respect other people’s needs for privacy.
We were delighted to meet many DCL citizens in person at the NFTxROADS event in Valencia. I can’t wait to see you again and chat about otaku and art!
What is your inspiration and how do you manage the creative process?
My creative process is often at the mercy of my ambitions. Luckily, I have a great business partner who supports me.
I’m inspired by many things, including the historical repertoire of game art styles, but mostly I’m inspired by pushing the boundaries. Not only does it sell, it empowers collectors. Digital fashion inspires me in that regard as well.
What is the key to digital creativity? what will it be?
Think about technology and how it can be used in new dynamics. But the way people can enjoy digital assets is in a way that purchasing is not a weak excuse for wealth extraction.
How do you see the future of digital wearables?
I believe in the future This may sound naive and even a little pessimistic, but people would prefer to look at the digital world over the physical world (which has already happened in the last 20 years). A highly coveted item that not only gives people a sense of identity and social status, but also influences their experiences in these digital worlds.
The breadth of experience is highly desirable in any situation. That’s why people enjoy rollercoaster rides, participate in mind-altering drugs for different states, etc. Decentraland is ahead in this regard with its decentralized application of utilities to digital wearables.
New flashy projects will emerge with stock assets, but Decentraland’s infrastructure will take time and require organic democratic processes that other projects haven’t begun to think about. Most other metaverses seek monopolies at the expense of digital wearable buyers to appease VC expectations.
How do you see the future of the metaverse?
I see the future of the Metaverse as a street lined with 100 coffee shops. People will try each method over and over, eventually sticking with it until their favorite method goes out of business. Then move on.
The real question is whether they can redeem a fully stamped loyalty card at the previous store and who funds these franchises. Do we return to the ecosystem that provides (in this hilarious parallel, coffee bean growers?) to a series of individuals who happen to be in the early stages of the project (all the worker-sacrifice investors). Paid more and more (in hierarchy)?
Decentralize and fight for it <3
