How did you get involved in NFT and how have you been affected?
In the final year of my art degree, Covid hit and suddenly everything was online. As I was preparing for the graduation ceremony, suddenly everyone came rushing out of the gallery. Without notice, we had to adapt the 7-foot sculpture for online curation.
This is when I first became interested in digital art and creating landscapes on digital screens. In terms of how it affected me as an artist, I was looking for a way to promote my art without the stress of it being stolen or copied as a result of digital platforms.
This is where we decided to explore NFT’s platform for security from the Non-Fungible side.
When did you start taking pictures?
I have not formally explored photography as a medium, but have explored it passively in my free time. Given this, I never thought photography would be known as a primary format.
It primarily started with capturing my sculptural installations. As I practiced more and more, I wanted to add more layers to the landscapes I created, so I started experimenting with making props and double exposures.
Who are the photographers who have influenced you the most? Is there anyone you look up to?
I take inspiration from all kinds of art forms. Organic forms in film, sculpture, performance and natural landscapes. Photographers who have influenced my work include Christoffer Relander and Sonja Saur.
Sonja Saur’s storytelling inspired me to explore the mythical and nostalgic in my work, including my prop-making experiments.
Relander’s multiple exposures have always intrigued me because they allow human subjects to blend with other organic objects. He inspired me to edit my photos using multiple layers to not only create depth but also to facilitate storytelling.
One thing I wish I knew when I started taking photos.
One thing to know when starting your photography journey is that every shot doesn’t have to be perfect. Don’t get me wrong, the scene needs to be curated to balance the visual aspect.
However, emotions are best captured when there is fluidity and freedom. Build relationships with the people you photograph, exchange ideas, experiment, but most importantly, enjoy yourself.
