Google-owned YouTube has appointed Web3-friendly executive Neal Mohan as its new CEO after Susan Wojcicki stepped down this week.
Wojcicki stepped down from YouTube after nine years on Feb. 16, outlining plans to start a “new chapter” focused on family, health and personal projects. During her tenure, she oversaw the pivotal implementation of, among other things, the revenue sharing model.
Going forward, she will remain an advisor to Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company.

Before becoming the new CEO, Mohan served as YouTube’s chief product officer, overseeing the removal of controversial video dislike buttons, the introduction of YouTube Shorts to compete with Tik Tok, and YouTube Music.
Regarding Web3, in February 2022, Mohan outlined interim plans to integrate many new features such as metaverse-based content experiences and content tokenization with non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Discouragement of the NFT-hating community at the time.
In particular, Mohan emphasized that NFTs can provide new ways for creators to engage with their audience and develop additional revenue streams. As an example, he cited the potential for creators to tokenize videos, photos, art, and experiences.
